How to Find the Sacred in Everyday Moments

The other day, I found myself outside on a picture-perfect spring afternoon, playing with my grandchildren. The air was warm, the sky a brilliant blue, and laughter echoed across the yard like music. We had a bucket of water balloons, nothing fancy, just the simple kind that burst with a satisfying splat on the sidewalk.
They ran back and forth, squealing with delight as they grabbed balloons and flung them into the air. Water sparkled in the sun. Tiny bare feet slapped on the pavement. Giggles and shrieks of joy filled the moment so completely that time seemed to pause.
And then a thought came to me, as clear and quiet as a whisper:
“Can heaven really be any better than this?”
That simple moment, filled with laughter, love, and sunshine, was more than just a good afternoon—it was a glimpse of the miraculous.
Seeing the Miracles Hiding in Plain Sight
When we hear the word miracle, many of us think of big, extraordinary events. But what if the real miracles are the small things we overlook? The kindness of a friend who checks in just when you need it. The smell of lilacs in a breeze. A child’s laughter. A quiet evening with someone you love.
We can spend so much time waiting for “something good” to happen that we miss the good that’s already happening all around us. We become so focused on fixing, striving, or surviving that we forget to simply look around.
The truth is, there’s something sacred about the ordinary when we pay attention. That moment with my grandchildren reminded me that joy doesn’t always arrive with trumpets and fireworks. Sometimes, it shows up in wet sidewalks and squealing kids.
Training Our Eyes to See the Good
Seeing the miraculous doesn’t mean pretending life is perfect or ignoring the hard stuff. It means making a conscious choice to notice beauty, connection, and wonder—even when they’re subtle.
It’s the practice of asking:
What did I experience today that made me smile?
What moment made me feel truly alive?
Where did I see kindness, joy, or light?
The more we ask those questions, the more our minds begin to seek out the good. We train our eyes—and our hearts—to see life not as something to get through, but something to be in.
Your Life Already Holds Miracles
You don’t have to chase extraordinary experiences to find meaning. Sometimes, the most miraculous moments are the ones right in front of you. A hug. A deep breath. A sunny day with people you love.
So today, pause for a second.
Look around.
What if this is the miracle?
